In my Creative Studies class, I watched the movie "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" This movie is about three men who escaped from jail and went on an adventure. It was released in the year 2000 and is modern re-telling of Homer's "The Odyssey." I would give this movie a 4 star rating for it's acting quality and the cast. This movie did not help me better understand "The Odyssey" at all but there were similar parts, such as "the cyclops" which in this version was played by John Goodman with an eye patch. This version also included the sirens and a blind prophet. When Ulysses, (The one who represented Odysseus who was played by George Clooney), returns to his home and see's his daughters it's like the story from "The Odyssey", "The Meeting of Father and Son." One of the big differences between these two stories is that in "O Brother, Where Art Thou?", his wife did not stay loyal. When Ulysses returned home he found out that his wife had divorced him and was engaged to another man. He did eventually end up with her in the end though. "The Odyssey" ended when Odysseus returned home to his dear wife Penelope and I was going to say that "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" did not end like this but now that I think about it, it really did. When Ulysses first returned home and saw his wife and daughters, he was not yet done with his adventure and since his heart was still wanting to adventure and home is where the heart is, his wife and daughters were not yet home. At the end of the story he settled down and said that his adventuring days were over. This is when his wife saw that he was telling the truth and they then got engaged.
Most of Ulysses journey happened in the "Special World." He entered the special world when a little bit after he escaped from jail and after the blind prophet talked to him. The cyclops, and sirens were both tests he had to face, along with the KKK meeting. He reborn when he, as a heathen, got down on his knees and prayed to God. After he prayed, a huge wall of water washed over him and his friends and flooded the entire area. He then found the reward which was the ring that his ex wife/fiance wanted. He then returned back to his wife and told her that his adventuring days were over.
